Week Opens Quietly With Values Steady

The week opened quietly ... with values steady at the morning call -on the Auckland Stock Exchange. In the banking, Commercials were firm, the market closing after a sale at 19/6, between that figure and 19/7,. For the preferences, sellers asked £9 8/, with buyers 3d below, . . ... AusV’alian industrials attracted little attention. Broken Hill Proprietary, after a sale unchanged at £4 9/3, had unsupported sellers at £4 9/6. A buyer for British Tobaccos came in at £2 11/6, and sellers raised their limits to £2 12/6. The highest buying offer for some time for Colonial Sugars, £44 5/, failed to attract a seller’s quotation. G. J. Coles were quoted closer from £5 4/ to £5 5/. Metal shares were easier. Electro-Zinc changed hands 2d lower at £3 3/10, and Mt. Lyells sellers came down to £2 11/6 still without a buyer in sight. In the Government loan section,, buyers for both long-term 4 per cent issues moved up to £lO3.
