Cable messages received by the “Northern Advocate,” frequently quote the name of Major-General A. C. Temperley, military correspondent of the “London Daily Telegraph.” During the Abyssinian War, Major-General Temperley represented his paper at the front, and. supplied many vivid descriptive articles. It is interesting to note that Major-General" Temperley, during the Great War, became well known to many New Zealand troops. Among them was, Mr C. J. Malloy, of Whangarei, who came into close contact with the Major-General the Gallipoli campaign. Writing to Mr Malloy recently, Major-General Temperley commented: “Gallipoli was a wonderful show, and I do not regret it at all. I especially treasure the memory of all the good friends I made in the N.Z.E.F.”
