Kaeo
Captain O’Jala, of the Salvation Army, held a harvest festival service in Pye’s hall last Wednesday evening. Although the weather was not inviting, quite a number of interested citizens attended. After a short service and a few musical items, a “Dutch” auction of the produce was held. In recognition of the good work done by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union in the district, a special service was conducted in the Methodist Centenary Church by the Rev F. Bateup, on Sunday last. A very pleasant afternoon was spent in the Soldiers’ Library, Kaeo, on Tuesday, when the friends of Miss Ann Smith, of Whangaroa, gathered to wish her “good luck” prior to her approach- ( ing marriage to Mr Ray Herbert. The j time was spent chiefly in opening the parcels containing many beautiful as well as useful gifts, for which Miss Smith .expressed sincere thanks. Amusing competitions and a delightful afternoon tea provided by the ladies, created a very sociable atmosphere. Miss Peak, of Auckland, is visiting i Miss Fletcher, the relieving district nurse. She is the guest of Miss Leslie.
Mrs Nixon and her son Brian, of Rotorua, are the guests of Mr and Mrs B. Whitehead.
