BRADMAN SILENCES HIS CRITICS

HAS HE LACKED HIS OLD SKILL? The wonderful return to form of Don Bradman is the talk of the moment everywhere. The manner in which he combined determination and skill in piling up his unbeaten 248 yesterday thrilled many Northlanders. The newspaper descriptions and wireless broadcasts are being followed with remarkable interest. Supporters of Australia are happy. They consider that their heroes can still retain the “Ashes,” particularly as the next test is played at Adelaide, Bradman’s home ground and the fifth at Melbourne, which is noted as the great D.G.’s happy hunting-ground.

Bradman has silenced his critics. He certainly clisappointed his admirers in -the two first tests, although the 80odd at Sydney cannot be scorned. It is admitted that the luck has been against him and his team, but many have contended that the mighty Don is now not so mighty. It seems a pity that a man is so often judged solely on his expositions at the game at which he has made his name. More studious followers of the game have not lost sight of the fact that only a few weeks ago, Bradman lost his infant son. Who knows that this misfortune has not upset him so much as to affect his batting? It is evident from the reports of Jack Hobbs and ether great cricketers that the great Don has not been his old self. We hope he can prove to us all that he is still as champion a batsman as ever. His latest innings goes a long way towards convincing us that he has lost none of his dash..
