CHARGES AGAINST MAORIS AT KAIKOHE

Seven Maoris appeared in the Kaikohe Court yesterday to answer charges of drunkenness and disorderly behaviour. Niki Epiha and Bert Howard were charged with fighting in Kaikohe on Saturday. Both men were arrested by Constable F. H. McNutt. The evidence showed that Howard was the aggressor and he was fined £2 10/-. Epiha was discharged. Hemi Tamiti Mahia (Kaikohe), Ned Ange.U (Okaihau), Fred Boxer (Okaihau), and Joe Dick (Okaihau) were charged with fighting while under the influence of liquor. In each case a fine of £ 1 was imposed. For striking another Maori on the face, Moses Brown was fined £2 10/-.
