NICHOL’S ARM INJURY
Boxing
HAD TO FORFEIT BOUT TO KELLY [Special to “Northern Advocate.’•'l AUCKLAND, This Day. There was a disappointing end to the professional heavyweight boxing contest between Deacon Leo Kelly, of America, and Claude Nichol, of Australia, in the Town Hall last night. The match ended soon after the opening of the seventh round, when Nichol appealed to the referee, Mr R. Meale, for an examination of his right arm, which he had been unable to use in the preceding round.
Doctors pronounced the arm unfit to continue and the bout was awarded to Kelly. Nichol injured his arm while punching a bag in a workout on Friday, but lie did not realise it was so serious. Doctors announced that he had wrenched the triceps of his arm, and would be unable to do any training for a month at least. It was an unfortunate, end to the bout, which had promised to be interesting. Nichol was leading on points at the time.
