Ideal weather prevailed at Ellerslie this morning for training and the going on No. 1 grass, on which the poles were out lOft, was in excellent order. Some smart gallops were recorded chiefly by horses engaged at the Te Awamutu meeting on Saturday next. Speedfast, opening proceedings, was given an easy six furlongs, which took 1.28 2-ssec. Kilonsoa was allotted a similar task, registering 1.19 1-5. She is looking in first-class condition after racing at the Takapuna meeting. Chief Emerald trotted round to the threefurlong post, and ran home in 38 3-ssec. He ,- 3 ccming on satisfactorily since being recommissioned. Salva got to the end of six furlongs in 1.25 4-5, doing it very comfortably, and Jolly Dance sprinted five furlongs in 1.6 4-5. Huntsman’s Chorus was allotted useful work, which he completed by running his last half-mile in 54sec. Master Brierly Impresses. The Auckland Cup candidates, Master Brierly and Knight of Australia were asociated over a mile, which occupied 1.45 2-5. They ran the first half in 53 4-ssec, and there was nothing between them at the finish, though Master Brierly impressed. Gay Broney was timed to run the last six furlongs of his work in 1.24 4-5. After commencing slowly over a round, Big Dock completed six furlongs in 1.25 1-5, the last three taking 40sec.

Royal Appellant and Valspear, after taking 27 3-ssec for the first two furlongs, got to the end of six in 1.20 2-5. Both did their work well. Dialogue ran a similar distance in 1.18 2-5, after taking 38 4-ssec for the first three furlongs. Tidewaiter and Glen Abb reeled off three furlongs in 37 3-sseo, a useful effort for novices. School Song and Digitalis (the mare by Musketoon —Foxglove in F. Stenning’s stable) were timed to run half a mile in 53 2-ssec, the former finishing in front.

Best Half-mile. The best half-mile of the morning was credited to Round Up and King Neptune, who covered the distance in 50 l-ssec. They were on terms at the end, though Round Up was doing the better. Aero, King shaded Nuclei at the conclusion of three furlongs in 33 3-ssec. Aero King has had' little fast work, and his showing was encouraging.

United traversed half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Lady Diana completed five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, the first two taking 26 3-ssec. This mare is in tip-top order for her Waipa engagement. After schooling, Carshalton ran a mile in 1.50 2-ssec, the last six furlongs taking 1.22 1-5. Waitaki and his stablemate, by Vaals, ran half a mile on the tan in 55 l-ssec.

The Jumpers.

Carshalton gave a safe display over two pony hurdles, and, after this, cleared a big % one in good style.

Seven Seas jumped two pony hurdles satisfactorily, and, when joined by Gay Cavalier, cleared two bigger hurdles well. Seven Seas has the style to make a success in this department. Free Air. who was left at Riccarton when R. Rama returned to Auckland, arrived from Lyttelton by steamer yesterday.
