BOROUGH COUNCIL BY-ELECTION
MAJORITY OF 127 FOR MR H. N. JAMES
Comparatively little interest was taken in the poll yesterday for the election of a councillor to fill the vacancy on the Whangarei Borough Council, caused through the resignation of Mr N. E. Crimp.
Mr H. N. James was successful in beating the only other candidate, Mr A. F, Baker, by a majority of
127 out of a total of 680 votes cast,
Voting was slow throughout the day, and the final result was announced 20 minutes after the polling booths had closed at 7 p.m. Under a dozen people were waiting at the Town Hall for the result.
The majority voted at the Town Hall, while at the Maunu Road and (Hospital booths the numbers were under 100. Only one informal vote was cast. Following are the details at the individual booths:—
