“NO CHANGE IN POSITION,” SAYS MR SAVAGE

INDICATION THAT THINGS ARE EASIER

f Per Press Association. Copyright . 3 WELLINGTON. This Day. “There has been, no change in the position,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, yesterday, after another meeting of the Cabinet, which had sat throughout the morning. “We are expecting further information today from the British Government. It is expected that Mr Baldwin will make a statement in the House of Commons. “I would say the latest indications suggest that the situation is <* less difficult,” continued Mr Savage. “Of course, the decision at the moment rests with the King, and until that is known, nothing more can be said. When the time comes, for it, the New Zealand Government will make a statement about the question as a N whole, and its attitude towards a difficult and very delicate question.”

In reply to a question, Mr Savage expressed the opinion that a General Election in Britain over the crisis was unthinkable.

“Why.” he said, “both sides would be discussing the same policy. Such a position would be farcical, and nothing better than political confusion. Let us hope the British Throne will never become the shuttlecock of a political fight."
