Loyalty to Crown. The Union Jack was flown from the Whangarei Town Hall to-day as a mark of the continued loyalty of the borough to the Empire and Monarchy whatever the outcome of the present crisis. Sharemilker Injured. A painful accident befell Mr McConnell, aged 70, a sharemilker on the Nelson Estate farm, Waihou Valley, last Thursday morning. Mr McConnell was standing on a platform feeding pigs, when he fell and broke three ribs. Dr. McLean, of Kaikohe, was called in and attended him. A later report is that he is progressing well, and able to get about.
Pigeon At Parua Bay. On Thursday morning last a pigeon appeared in the garden of Mr and Mrs H, S. King, - “Riverside.” Parua Bay. On being approached it proved timid, and after picking about, left the vicinity. Just at dusk on Saturday either the same or another bird settled on the tank stand, and after a little persuasion, was caught. On examination the bird was found to have on one leg a metal ring, bearing the number GFG 15 and across the ring No. 35. On the other leg was a rubber band. No. RlB.

Rotary Club
At the Rotary Club’s luncheon today, it was decided, to held on. December 16 the annual Christmas tree for the children of the town.
Emergency Unemployment Tax. In view of the increased national income, the Whangarei sub-provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union decided, on the motion of Mr F. Platt .(.Mangakahia) today, to suggest to the Government that the amount of exemption for payment of emergency unemployment taxation be raised on lower-paid incomes.
