ASSISTANCE FOR ROADS

WHARECRA-PATAUA AND WAIPU-MANGAWAI

Writing to the Whangarei County Council in regard to the WhareoraPataua and Waipu-Mangawai roads, the District Engineer of the Public Works Department advised that Cabinet’s approval had been obtained, subject to satisfactory arrangements being made with the council regarding some measure of assistance with the work, to the improvement of the roads mentioned.

“It is proposed, he wrote, to widen the existing formation and metal to provide a safe margin of security to traffic, and an endeavour will be made to meet any suggestions the council may care to .express regarding the details of the work to be carried out. “Assistance in the form of free use of plant—transport, graders, rollers or crushers—would be very acceptable, together with any financial aid your council may feel disposed to contribute.

“Sums of £2,150 for the WhareoraPataua Road and £6OO for the Whangarei county section of the WaipuMangawai road have been tentatively allocated, and in anticipation of these amounts being provided in this year’s estimates, an immediate announcement is being made. Cr A. Clarke said that this was the first intimation he had had of the matter and it would have to be considered. He was sure the residents would be glad to hear that the roads were to be improved. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the engineer and riding members concerned.
