[Special to “Northern Advocate.”] v DARGAVILLE, This Day.
At a special sitting of the Police Court last night, Mihaka Panapa, aged 23, the well-know Northern Wairoa and North Auckland .Rugby representative, and George Rahui, aged 20, were sentenced to six weeks’ imprisonment on a charge of being found without lawful excuse on the premises of Mrs Lillian Sarah Hampton, at Kaihu, on June 3. On a further charge of theft of three berets valued at 4/6, they were convicted and discharged. Accused pleaded guilty to both counts.. Sergeant Cullotty said that Mrs Hampton left the back door of her premises unlocked for the convenience of her sister-in-law, who was attending a'dance at Dargaville. After the women had returned, they were awakened by* snoring. On investigation they found the two accused in bed.
Rahui later passed obscbne remarks, When the women arose next morning accused had decamped and the berets were found at Panapa’s house. Both accused made statements admitting the offence. Both were sober at the time of the offence. “The ends of justice will be served if they are committed to gaol for six weeks,” remarked the presiding Justice,; Mr F. M.. Lane.
