'KARAMEA TOO GOOD
FIVE GOALS UP AGAINST UNITED ’Karamea had a substantial win over United by 5 goals to 1, at Kensington Park. ’Karamea had a lead of four goals to nil at half-time and were never seriously troubled by the opposition. United set the ball rolling by forcing play to ’Karamea’s circle, Hannam centring nicely. The ball was well stopped, however, though United did not relax. They were' close again when Fyfe hit up for Elliott to have a shot. ’Karamea again cleared and after Kelly had given “sticks,” they sailed to the other end of the field. C. Bint had a clear shot and beat Saul. ’Karamea 1, United 0. ’Karamea scored again not long after, following a keen attack. C. Bint again broke through and sent in a strong shot from the edge of the circle. The ball found the back of the net without mistake. ’Karamea 2, United 0. Three minutes later, following a penalty corner, ’Karamea netted again. C. Bint once more connected accurately and gave the ■ goalie no chance. ’Karamea 3, United 0.
’Karamea were now three goals in the lead with only about ten minutes of play gone, and United rushed to the other end where they gave the defence some hard work. United had an anxious minute when ’Karamea again broke through, Matthews centring for Bint to dive in. Saul came out and . hit clear, however, and the game went back to ’Karamea’s end. ’Karamea were by no means finished and once again swept upfield, cutting the defence to ribbons. A nice centre gave C. Bint an opportunity and he managed to touch the ball as Saul came out to defend. A gentle shot rolled. into the goal. ’Karamea 4, United 0. C. Bint, who was to the front in evSry ’Karamea .move had two more shots, but on each occasion the ball went wide. United were on the defensive and were tried again a few minutes later. United’s. front line \yas not combining so well, and was being continuously beaten for the ball. United nearly scored, following corner, when Wilson drove, hard, the* ball just missing. On the resumption after half-time, ’Karamea attacked strongly and Saul gave a brilliant clearing kick. ’Karamea continued to press hard and soon after broke through the defence again. C. Bint added to his bag. ’Karamea 5, United 0. United opened its account by a determined rush. Creamer shot : to the centre and after Fyfe had carried the ball on, F. Palmer let drive and found the net. ’Karamea 5, United 1. There was some even play with United attacking whenever the opportunity occurred. Both sides nearly scored once or twice. United had bad luck when Creamer centred and Hannam had a shot which just missed. The final whistle found the scores unaltered. Messrs Campbell and Batchelor refereed.
