MORE PATIENTS; FEWER DEATHS
WHANGAREI HOSPITAL YEAR In every instance, except in the number of deaths, the figures supplied by Dr. J. W. Hall, medical superintendent of the Whangarei District Hospital, in his annual report to the board, show an increase over those for the previous year.
The general statistics for 1935 include the following, the 1934 figures being given in parentheses:— Patients admitted, 1936 (1773); patients died, 58 (68); operations performed, 1090 (1083); maternity annexe cases, 280 (269). The massage department has carried out 1878 treatments, on a total of 125 patients. Dr. Gocdwin reported that 960 persons have been X-rayed, compared with 914 in 1934.
Apart from the 280 mothers confined at the maternity annexe, that staff also dealt with 819 attendances at the ante-natal clinic.
Mr. A. L. Haden reports that the bacteriological department examined 3967 specimens, as follows: —From hospital, 3524; from medical practitioners and other sources, 443.
