CAPTIVE ELEPHANT SHOT. Rajah, one of the two elephants at the Auckland Zoo, was shot this morning by order of the City 'Council officials. in the interests of public safety. For\ some time past Rajah was too bad tempered to be allowed out of the elephant house, and in recent weeks he definitely “turned rogue.” only his keeper being able to manage him. The great beast, which was valud at £SOO, will not be a total loss to the city, as his skin is to be turned over to the # taxidermists. and Rajah 1 will be mounted, and set up in the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
