While working at the iWaiotahi Block, widening the main OpotikiWhakatane highway, where the road has been seriously eroded by- the sea, a Maori, Jacob Ngatai, saw a fall of earth coming down. He jumped over a high bank in an endeavour to get away from the falling debris, and, as a result, suffered a badly fractured heel. He was admitted to the Opotiki Public Hospital.
