CRICKET AND SWIMMING

MT. ALBERT GRAMMAR VISITORS

Tomorrow and Wednesday are the big days of the year fot Whangarei High School cricketers. The annual match against Mt. Albert Grammai

School is due to take place on the turf wicket at the Higfc School grounds, which will be utilised on this occasion for the first time for five years.

Two wickets have been prepared and the swimming will be held in the School pool, marking another innovation.

In addition, the second eleven, which participates in the junior grade competition, will have a match against boys from another secondary school. Their opponents will consist of third-formers, who are members of the sixth eleven.

Never in the history of these annual encounters has the local team proved superior to their rivals, usually suffering defeat by a big margin. L. Murdoch will captain the side and toss the coin with M. L. Kingston at 3.30 p.m. tomorrow, the game commencing after the Aucklanders have arrived by train. Play will also extend over the next day. The personnel of the elevens is: HIGH SCHOOL.

First Eleven.—L. Murdoch (captain), W. Alison, R. Kermode, G. Hawken, G. Mason, J. Mason, E. Weston, C. Nisbet, H. Day, H. James, M. Hore, with W. Simpson 12th man. Second Eleven.—H. Rodgers (captain), D. Moselen, E. Rishworth, L. James, R. Roote, D. Coote, L.’ Cooke, R. Griffin, T. Schon, D. Fairley, W. Simpsbn, with T Carrigan 12th man.

Sixth Eleven.—Boddey (captain), Stugham, Hefferman, Robson, Robinson, Turner, Grieve, Morrow, Phillips, Parkinson and Brown. A team of eight swimmers will also come North, making the largest invasion of boys from another secondary institution ever to visit Whangarei.
