WEEK OPENS QUIETLY

After a brisk close at the week-end, the - Auckland Stock Exchange opened quietly this morning, and only a small list was put through at this morning’s call, and some of these were late ones from Saturday. In the banking section chief movements were a slight improvement in New. South Wales, which sold 5/ higher at £34 15/, with more wanted, and an easing in New Zealands, which were quoted from £2 7/ to £2 7/4. There were again no offers for Dominion Insurance shares, but Queensland were asked for at £2 16/, and no sellers.
There was a steady inquiry for Government stocks, and the 46’s sold 5/ higher!at £lO2 10/, with more in demand at that figure, and holders 5/ away.
Wbolworths (Sydney) were very firm,' being quoted between £6 12/ and £6 15/.
Noon Call.
In a fluctuating market at noon the chief features were a weakening in Bank of New Zealands, which had sales 4d lower, and were still obtainable at the new price, a better inquiry for Government securities, which showed a small advance in values, a sharp rise in Woolworths (Sydney) scrip, and an easing tendency in Auckland Gas, which had limits of £1 5/4 and £1 5/9.
Dominion Breweries gained a further 3d, and settled with quotations 3d on each side.
