NOTED PATHOLOGIST

PROFESSOR MACcCALLUM’S VISIT

[Special to “Northern Advocate/’] AUCKLAND, This Day. Professor P. MacCallum, Professor of Pathology at the University of Melbourne, arrived by the Mariposa today and is to spend a short holiday in New Zealand, before returning to Australia from a trip round the world. He is accompanied by Mrs MacCallum. A New Zealander himself, the professor was some time with Canterbury College, but he has spent most of his time since the Great War in Edinburgh and later in Melbourne. He served with the Royal Medical Corps during the War. His tour has included visits to the greatest pathological laboratories and scientific research stations in England and North America. He said progress was continually being made in all lines of in/estigation in pathology, including :rime detection.

Asked whether he thought there was a possibility of success with the anti-cancer sex’um, which was reported to be effective with animals, die professor replied that it was impossible to be definite about such a big question. If, as was hoped, an effective cure for cancer was discovered, it would be the result, part■y of years of scientific reasoning and experiment, and partly just plain good luck.
