UNKNOWN FERN

PROPAGATED BY COLLECTOR. [Special to “Northern Advocate .”l TAURANGA. This Day. A fernery established in Tauranga 10 years ago by Mr. Charles Cameron now contains 1300 varieties of native and foreign ferns. They include one unique species, which was propagated from leaf mould found in a buried forest, 15 feet below the surface, at the junction of the Ominawa Road, about eight miles from Tauranga. This fern represents the one species of cystopteris, and, before its propagation by Mr. Cameron, was unknown. So far it has not been named. Mr. Cameron has sent specimens of the fern to leading museums in various parts of the world and has been advised by exports that there is no trace of it in any other country. It is a pretty little fern and grows to a height of from 15 to 18 inches.
