OBITUARY
SUDDEN EXPIRY,
NORTH AUCKLAND LAWYER. MR MARCUS N. SKELTON. A well known barrister and solicitor of the Kaipara district, Mr Marcus N. Skelton, died suddenly at Paparoa last night, aged 59 years. Ho had been* in perfect health, having headed a deputation to the Minister of Health re the hospital at Paparoa during the day and later conducted a funeral at the Anglican Parish Church, of which lie was a lay reader. He went to the hospital to inform the staff of the results of the conference with the Minister of Health, and on sitting down collapsed and died instantly^ Mr Skelton was a son of the late Mr George Skelton, . J.p., and... Mrs Lctitia Skelton, of Paparoa. He leaves a wife and two sons, and three brothers and three sisters. He wtps educated at Paparoa public school, and worked on his farmer’s farm until he was 21. He. Ihen became a teacher through his course at the Auckland University College, and was about to take his degree when he was offered the post of senior house master at Nelson College, At .15 years of age he decided to study law, and entered the office of his brother, Mr A. Hall Skelton, in Auckland. Two years afterwards he was admitted to the bar, and joined his brother in partnership. He later took over the northern offices in Kaipara, being stationed at Paparoa, his birthplace.
Mr Skelton was a member of the Kaipara Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. He was keenly interested in Freemasonry, and was a Past Master of the Franklin Lodge, E.C. His old friend, Archdeacon Hawkins, of Auckland, will officiate at the funeral at St. Mark’s Church, Paparoa, tomorrow afternoon.
MRS GUY CHOAT. PUKETONA RESIDENT, = The death occurred at the residence of her parents, Puketona, on August 4, of Mrs Irene Winnifred Cheat. Deceased was born in Essex 30 years ago, and prior to leaving England held the position of typiste in the General Insurance Company’s office in London for live years. She accompanied her parents to New Zealand in 1923, and by her noble and pleasant disposition made a wide circle of friends. iShc held several certificates for piano and mandoline playing, and often presided at the piano during the local services. Slfte was ever ready to assist at any local function, and her services were particularly valuable in connection with the Social Hall Society. The deceased leaves her husband,. Mr Guy Choat, parents, brother, Mr E. A. Carter, and aunt, Mrs H. Holt. . The funeral took place at Waimate North, the service being conducted by Rev. .1. C. Fussell.
