“TOO LOW”
FOOTBALLERS COMPENSATION. THE RATE CRITICISED. An application was received by tin? Whangarei Hospital; Board yesterday from a recently injured footballci, asking that £l3, the amount received from accident insurance, be accepted in full settlement of his account of £ll(i. This led the chairman, Mr .1. N. McCarroll, to comment upon the low compensation paid by football authorities. ‘‘This young man ; had been over eight weeks on his back, and only drew £13,” Mr MeCarroll said. ‘‘The allowance in such cases, seems to be very small, but I don’t suppose it is any of our business.” Mr W. Jones: “Perhaps it is.” Other instances in which footballers had been inmates of the hospital for lengthy periods were also mentioned, but no action was taken.
