TWO ESCAPES RUMOURED. ACTION AGAINST BANDITS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 9 a.m.) RUGBY, July 12. The Foreign Under-Secretary, Captain Anthony Eden, was asked in the House of Commons today for the hottest information about the three British officers who were kidnapped from the steamer Nanchang off the coast of Manchukuo. In reply, Captain Eden said he was informed that Japanese authorities were taking steps against bandits generally in the district where these officers were held captive. According to a report not yet confirmed, two of the officers had escaped on July 7. Efforts were being made to locate them and to rescue the other captives. The British consular representative had impressed on the authorities concerned the danger of direct military action against the captors.
