The Nazis’ social revolution throughout Germany is taking strange forms. For instance, an edict issued for the “cleansing” of the film industry requires that all film directors, photographers and other experts shall prove their Gorman nationality and Aryan origin by producing documents proving their grandparents’ religion. Curiously enough, simultaneously with this edict the Vienna newspaper • ‘ Ocsterrieches Abendblatt’ ’ publishes frill details of the entries of Herr Hitler’s birth, and photographs of tombstones which prove that the German Chancellor himself is descended from a Jewish family from Pelona, Czechoslovakia. ... - The. Prussian Minister of the Interior has now prohibited the circulation of 201 foreign newspapers, including five British, 33 French, 48 Austrian, 11 Russian and 12 American. The sale in Germany of foreign newspapers in the German language, printed abroad, has increased enormously in recent months, whereas the circulation of local newspapers has fallen heavily.

A message from Berlin reports the murder of Dr. Spiegel, a Jewish lawyer, who recently was marched by Nazis barefooted through the streets of Munich with a placard suspended, from his neck, bearing, the words: “I never again will, complain to the police about the Nazis.” He was killed while attempting to escape from a, concern, tration camp at Dachau. - ...X : The. “Daily Herald” says the, Nazis admit Dr. Spiegel’s death, but the fpr? mula “while attempting to escape” is regularly used now to account for deaths of victims in concentration camps.

Moreover, says the paper, the Dachau-camp is surrounded by electrified barbed wire, rendering escape impossible. The Berlin correspondent of “The Times” says curiosity regarding the nuihber of prisoners in the eoneentra- ; tion camps in Germany has been only partially appeased by an ofiiciaP announcement that there are 18,000. including 12,000 in Prussia. The average estimate, based on the figures of the daily arrests since the Reichstag fire, would have been nearer 100,000. _ The Nazi Minister of the Interior in Saxony, Herr Fritseh, recently bbasted that twice as many prisoners were in Saxony’s camps as in Prussia’s. Also there have been thousands of arrests in Bavaria and*other states recently.
