The usual meeting was held iu the library rooms' on Thursday evening last, when there was present Mr N. M. Richmond, the director of the W.E.A. There ensued a keen discussion of about three hours’ .duration, wh’u-h took the shape 'of an informal debate on modem banking. Spinsters’ Ball. The annual spinsters’ ball was held in Bye’s Hall on Thursday evening last when the unattached young Indies of Kaeo entertained the local bachelors. Tlio Vesatile Trio supplied the

music. The supper was, as usual, a feature of the evening. When the

party broke up at 2 a.m. it was generally felt that if the bachelors’ social

effort was to bo ns doughty a one as the spinsters’ there was looming cm the horizon of the local male considerable extraction of tho primary digit. Football. On Friday last, duly i'!), there occurred at his home at Totara North the death of Air F. \V. Sanderson, for many years an honoured and respected resident in. this district. Frederick William Sanderson was born in Afanchesler in the year IKOO. Ho was edacatod at the Stratford Grammar School at the London City Council Society of Arts and the -Manchester .Mechanical Institute, where lie became highly qualified in social and political economy. He also studied commercial science and general mechanics, finally obtaining, with honours, certificates from the University of -Cambridge .in various -subjects of general knowledge. He commenced his career-in the Norm an town Post Office, where his uncle was chief postmaster, atterwards joining the drawing- office of the now famous firm of H. \\ ildo and Co., of Manchester, then pioneers in the fields of electrical and mechanical science. Later he occupied the post ot mechanical draughtsman in that office. He .followed his father and broliier to New Zealand in ISSO, and was for some time employed as master and first assistant in the Fiiriri, Alt. Eden, and Wellesley Street schools, having easily qualified in the examination for a master’s certificate. Later lie migrated north, where his lather had business interests at Whangaroa. Ho l was married in I-sSS to Aliss C. -Stephenson, a daughter of Captain Stephenson, of Bussell, and finally settled down in Totara North, whore lie became widely known through his association with tho Northern Steamship Co., whose agent he was until the time of his death, a period of over -10 years. It is interesting to note that he took up his duties on the day when the Clansman made her first trip. He also held for a number of years the position of secretary and accountant to T. AI, Lane and Hons, shipbuilders and timber merchants at Totara North. He was connected with many other busi-

ness concerns, and was an associate member of the Noav Zealand Socictv of Accountants. Of late years he hecame registrar for Ihc district, and Avas. for some years a Justice of the I’eace, Tie is survived by a widoAV, a brother, Mr P. J. .Sanderson, of Auckland, throe sons—Messrs P. R. and Allan .Sanderson 'of Totara North, and -Mi' N. R. Sanderson, of Takapnna—also a daughter, Mrs 0. B. Haves, of Kaeo.

Air Sanderson Avas unique in the affection and esteem in avlucli he was held by all sections of the communitA*. I lie tuneral, which Avas attended bv an unusually large number of people, was held at Totara North, Hie service at the grave-side being conducted bv the Rev. Ishonvood.
