FIREMEN’S HAZARDOUS TASK,

A large fire, which gutted the major portion of ■ ’Metcalfe’s bond and free stores on the harbour front today, caused damage amounting to about £IOO,OOO. The Fox Film Corporation lost £60,000 worth of cinema film, mostly the latest "talkies. ’’ Other film organisations had smaller losses. There was a. violent explosion when the films caught fire, making the firemen’s job hazardous.
Miscellaneous merchandise stored elsewhere suffered damage by water. The origin of the fire is unknown.
