WKLFARE LEAGUE. The monthly .meeting of the Management Committee was held in the Portland Hall on Monday night, Mr A. C. W-hitham presiding over an attendance of Messrs A. .1, Magee, H. Penning, C. S. Carr senr. J, A. Beavis, C. Just, F. Boyd, H. Bland, J. Borry, W. Wallbank and E. Hay (secretary). Apologies were noted from Messrs Ferguson, Richards and Williamson,

The Methodist Bible Class wrote applying for use of hall kitchen and crockery. This application wag granted after the following regulations govern ing same had been passed: (a) That, charge for hire of crockery and use of hall kitchen, when main hall not used, be 3/-, plus cost of any breakages; hirer must state quantity of crockery required; (b) applications for use of crockery outside the hall to be considered on their merits; (c) when main hall is required, the hirer of same to have preference over any. other application for use- of kitchen.

REPORTS, The treasurer reported credit, balances as follows: Bank of N.Z., £72 12s Id; P. 0.5.8., £l9 ISs Id. The secretary’s report was as fril lows: Receipts for May were £OS 12s 7el, ami expenditure £O7 10s 4d. Billiard room and canteen .receipts 7 were much improved, but there was a slight decrease in cinema department.- Tho heavy gale -a few weeks ago caused damage to "the ladies’ bathing shod. It was also reported that -a meeting had been called with the object of forming a Welfare Orchestra, Mr S. Stringer and Miss E, Brewis had taken the matter up, and would be pleased to have the names of any musicians! who were desirous of joining. Support for a chess chib was forthcoming, and it was hoped to get same formed up shortly. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS. Cinema.—lt had been decided to enforce a rule that all tickets must be shown at door; also .that no smoking be allowed -during picture entertainments. Billiards. —Snooker tournament with 19 entries was now in progress. In order to sustain interest in billiard room the committee desired to hold an annual tournament during the winter months. No entrance fee is to bo charged; each player to play evoi-y other entrant; trophies to be awarded the winner and runner-up.

Grounds. —The matter of making the drain near the entrance gate of the sports ground safer was loft to the grounds committee, who will moot on the ground at .10 on Sunday morning next.

Social. —Catering for annual dance had been given to Mr 0. Williams, oi Portland. M. ’sC. for the dance were Messrs Ferguson Just and Richards.

Band. —Mr Just asked for'permission to exchange a G 'trombone for a. more suitable intsrument. Mr Just, as Management Committee representative, was authorised to deal with the matter.

A report from the joint conductor-, Messrs MaeCormaek ami Mee, stated that good progress was being made with the recently formed boys’ band. Regular compulsory practices were being held, with an average attendance of 15. Trophies had been donated for most improved player and rnnner-up; best attoudaneCj and runner-up; best behaved boy. The band hoped to be able to give a Sunday concert in about six weeks’ time. GENERAL.

It was decided to accept the tender of Skellorn 's Orchestra for the supply of music for the annual dance.

The tender of Miss E. Brewis, for the supply of cinema mu pc was.accept-

Three tenders wore received for all cleaning under the jurisdiction of the committee. On a ballot being taken, that of Miss' M. Forbes was accepted.

The Roman Catholic Church was granted permission to place a. small cabinet in the library hall at their own ■risk.

The sub-committee appointed to revise the amounts of insurances, submitted their report. It was decided to increase .the total amount from £IOOO to £ISOO. The. matter of insuring the band instruments was left to the secretary to enquire into. Accounts totalling £4O 0s 3d were passed for payment.
