In the county cricket series 'Northants in their first innings made 281 (Timms 113) and declared in the second innings after knocking up 229 for six wickets. Surrey replied with 208 (Thomas five for 73) and 175 (Shepherd 86 —Clark six for 02). Northants won by 127 runs. Leicester in their first essay compiled 138 (Boyes five for 23) and in the second they made 109 (Boyes taking five for 36 and Newman four for 48), Hampshire responded, first innings 150 (Geary six for 43) and second innings 99 for two wickets (Brown not out 60'); 'Hampshire won by eight wickets.

Sussex first innings, 261 (Macaulay took five for 54) and second innings, 285 (Bowley 70, Parks' 73 —Dennis took five for 61). Yorkshire replied with 205 (Bowley six for 72) and 128 for five wickets. Sussex won on the first innings.

Nottingham in their first innings made 387 (Whysall 65, Barratl not. out 00—Haig took six for 124). Middlesex in their first innings made 187 (Hearne 76—Barratt took six for 65) and in the second 110 runs (A. Staples taking five for 34). Nottingham won by an innings and 90 runs. Kent knocked up 103 in their first innings (Poster five for 30) and in the second made 75 runs for one wicket. Warwick replied with 89 (Hafdinge six for 0) and followed on for 178, Leslie taking four for 27. Kent won bv nine wickets.

Gloucester met Somerset and made 184 (Wellard six for 82) and 236 (Dipler 62—Wellard five for 93). Somerset scored 175 (Wellard 75 —Goldsworthy six for 47) and 212 (Goldsworthy four for 74 and Sinficld four for 76). Glou-

cester won by 64 runs. In the match Glamorgan against Essex, the former made 133 and 123. Essex replied with 252 and eight for none. Essex won by ten wickets. Derby met -Worcester and knocked up 115 and 240. Worcester could only muster 70 and 169. Derby won by 116 runs.
