UNDERGRADUATES’ FOLLY,

VICE-CHANCELLOR GRIEVED

The University authorities express deep regrcit at the unseemly conduct of a small proportion of undergraduates, two of whom are to be prosecuted by the police. The Vice-Chancellor declares that their behaviour has broken his heart, as the undergraduates Had previously given an assurance that there would be no misconduct.

Wearing academic gowns, 25 representatives of the Undergraduates’ Association filed solemnly past the Cenotaph and placed on it a large wreath .with a card bearing the words: “Prom the undergraduates of Sydney University, as an apology for the insult to our glorious dead.” In addition to the procession being banned, the smoke concert, festival and ball have also been cancelled. Lectures will recommence forthwith.

Returned soldiers arc incensed at the students’ desecraton of the Cenotaph, and threaten if a. proposed procession is attempted tomorrow they will Break it up. They demand that the • University authorities shall ascertain the names of those offenders ar the Cenotaph and summarily expel them.

The Soldiers Mothers, Wives and Widows’ Association intends to issue summonses against, the offenders.

The Soldiers’ League will probably request police protection at the Cenotaph day and night, owing to continuous misdeeds there. It is announced that the students’ procession through the city, scheduled for tomorrow, has been cancelled, in the result of last night’s riotous behaviour.
