“LEGION OF THE CONDEMNED”
PICTURE OF WAR IN AIR. “The Legion of the Condemned”— from which the only honourable passport was a death certificate. The band who had tasted all life lead to give and drank deeply of the bitter dregs. How they fought for the privilege of almost certain death, welcoming the end and laughing at tomorrow! It is a story difficult of telling, this record of the men who fought in the skies, but the author who gave us “Wings,” profiled by the experience gained by the making of that picture, and in “The Legion of the Condemned,” which opened an extended season at Whangarei to a full house at the Lyceum last night, the spirit of the airmen Was captured, as that of the Navy breathed through “The Flag Lieutenant.” The trials and hair-raising exploits of the airmen in time of war have been brought to the screen. The photoplay deals Avith an attached flying unit at the French front, composed of men who, because of their dark pasts, wanted to die. Their daring exploits make a very entrancing story, which shows the sadness as well as the adventure of Avar. Through all, there runs a very attractive love theme Avhich has an unexpected termination on the Western Front.
The music last night was very .appropriately chosen, and synchronised with the filming in a pleasing manner. “The Legion of the CondemneifP' will he shown at the Town Hall tonight ami tomorrow night.
