Messrs Buckland and Sons 1 report that today at Westfield their beef pens contained 226 bead, comprising 104. steers and 121 .cows and heifers, compared with 540 last week. There was, in consequence, a keen demand and a sharp rise in values. Extra, choice ox sold to 50/ per 100 lbs; choice and prime, 37/ to 58/6; ordinary and plain, 54/ to 56/6; prime voting cow and heifer beef, 51/ to 54/; secondary, 25/ to 50/; no extra heavy prime steers wore penned;' heavy, £l6 to £l7 12/6; lighter, £l4 to £ls 17/6; light, £l2 to £ls 15/; unfinished and small, £lO 10/ to £ll 17/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO 15/ to £l2 2/6; heavy, £0 to £lO 12/6; lighter, £7 15/ to £8 1:7/6; other cows, £5 5/ to £7 13/6.
CLEARING SALE, RECORD PRICES OBTAINED. The North Auckland Farmers’ Co-op, Ltd., and Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report that on Tuesday, May 21, they conducted in conjunction a clearance sale on account of Mr .T. Graham Given, of Maungatapere, when 14 pedigree Jerseys, 50 grade Jersey cows and 59 heifers were, disposed of. The cows had been carefully selected by Mr Given over a long period and wore in'exeellcnt condition and"realised prices that probably consitute a record for the North since boom days. The averages given below include every animal offered whether defective nr otherwise:— j Thirteen cows drying off and due late, averaged £ls/11/6, the top price being £3l/1 paid by Mr S. Pardon for a heavy producing .matured cow. Three cows in full milk averaged £lB. Thirty-four cows due in the spring averaged £ls/12/5, tin 1 top price being £26/5/, paid for a second ealver. Forty-eight 2-year-old heifers averaged £lO/10/6, the top price being £l7 15/-, paid for four early cnlvers, am! ranging down to £7/10/, at which figure! 15 later calvors were sold. Eleven j yearling heifers made up to £7/5/-, thej average being £5/19/6. j Pedigree cows were not in -demand j and sold less keenly seven averaging £2O/10/5.
