Septic Tank Site. —Your committee recommends that the site on Mr Hoey’s property bp taken under ihe “Public Works Act.*’

Speaking on the motion for the adoption of the report, Cr Pickmere asked ■why notices had been served on property owners in King Street. Were the drains in a dirty condition and had an inspection been made before the notices wore sent out?

Cr Tibbits: “Yes. An inspection had been made.”

The Borough Engineer: “All the drains in that locality arc in a bad state and require clearing out. 'Phis also applies to the two drains on -Mr Main’s property. ’ ’

Cr Pickmere: “Does not the drain go to the Ha tea River? Is it all in a bad state?”

The borough engineer: “No, not for the full length. From Gillespies to ihe Hatea River is the council's job.” Cr Brainsby considered that the latter part of fhe paragraph in the report on this matter should be separated from the front portion as otherwise it would tend to hamper the question of the disposal of the storm water. The Mayor stated that he was not satisfied that the. existing concrete pipes would carry the water. It would be better to wait and see what would happen after the outlet had been cleaned out.

Cr Jackson supported the Mayor’s contention, which was subsequently ratified. Cr Rust asked if the committee recommended the adoption of the Powhiri Avenue-Stanley Street danse. The Mayor: "The adoption of the report does not .mean that the council is bound to purchase. ” Cr Brainsiby moved that the clause lie deleted, and the council deal with the subject matter in committee, after the disposal of business on the agenda. Cr Jackson (Seconded the proposition, which was carried. Cr Brake moved that the last clause of the report dealing with the septic tank .site ho deleted and that the question be considered by the council at a special .meeting to be called by the Mayor at a convenient date after the next meeting of the Whangarei Harbour Board. This was seconded by Cr Brainsby and carried.

The report, with the exception of the two clauses mentioned was then adopted.
