CITY’S FALL IMMINENT

KWANGSI NEARING- ARSENAL.

FOREIGN WARSHIPS STAND BY.

(United Service.) (Received 8.19 u.m.) HONG-KONG, May 20,

The Kwangsi offensive against Canton has been renewed with marked energy, this morning's reports indicating that the city is likely to fall shortly.

The main body of the Kwangsi is making towards the arsenal at Shekchang, on the outskirts of Canton, heavy gunfire being clearly heard in. the city, which is under martial law.

H.M.S. Moth and Cicala are standing by at Wiuehow for the purpose of evacuating foreigners. An American warship is also there for the same purpose.

It is believed that many Canton Chinese are eager to see the Kwangsi win, owing to the progressive reputation of that province.
