LONDON, May 20,
The “Daily Mail” prints a cable message from Calcutta showing that the Government authorities are contending with serious developments of a nature at present unexplained. Stringent precautions are being taken to guard the Viceroy and various provincial governors, all high civil and military officers and public builds ings.
Rumours are prevalent regarding secret movements of troops and material to Northern India. Meanwhile there; is a continuance of “Red” letters threatening incendiarism at (the. great Lahore fftwxshops.
The public is already demanding that the 'Government should take it into its confidence and tell the full truth, thus allaying anxiety among isolated European communities.
