He now required the second.

Cr Tibbits proposed that the application bo granted as apparently some understanding had been, made at the time. This was seconded bv Cr Jack-

Or Kolines was under the impression that only one connection had been promised and considered that the applicant should produce some documentary evidence in supprot of his claim. On the Mayor stating that no record of the transaction could be found in the council’s minutes, the motion was carried.

The Canadian .Knight and 'Whippet Company was granted permission to use the council’s crossing next to the Town Hall on payment of the usual f ee.

Messrs James and Wivimp made application for the formation and construction 'of two concrete crossings on the Walton (Street frontage of their premises. They nixies too d that it is the council’s policy to have such work carried out by employees of the council, applicants to bear cost of material. This they were agreeable to. At the same time they respectfully drew the council’s attention to the bad state of the footpath from Cameron Greet to Clyde Street and suggested that something be done to this section, in view of the heavy pedestrian traffic, from the Settlors’ Hotel to the Station, and thus obviate the necessity of taking the middle of the road to avoid the muddy footpath. It was decided that the crossings bo put in at the usual fee. and that the matter of the footpath be referred to the Works Committee. DKA IN AGE CONNECTION.

Mr J. Foster applied for permission to connect, the sewerage from house Xo. 7, Otaika Road, to the pipe Tanningl through Ills hack yard. The present sewerage is running into a sump hole which is very unsatisfactory, ana as there is no other means of getting rid of the sewerage except by the night-soil cart, and lie owned two houses, lie hoped the council would allow him to connect up.

Or Tibbits moved that the matter be referred to the Works Committee. Tins was seconded by Cr Brake.

The borough engineer reported adversely against the proposal. Or Jackson contended that permission should be granted as the same

principle had been adopted in other cases. He instanced three of his own houses that had been similarly connected. Cr Brake remarked that the pipe line passed through other private property and other people had to be considered in the event of a blockage. Cr Jackson failed to get support for his contention and the motion was carried. BLOCK OF SHOES.
