QUEEN VOTING CONTEST
WON BY CIVIL SERVICE. BAND’S NOMINEE SECOND. The voting - contest in connection with the Queen Carnival promoted 'by the Whangarei Municipal Silver 'Band closed at noon today, when the Secret Service officer, Mr A. D. Jack, declared the result to be as follows; — Civil Service (Miss 'May French) 2460 Votes Band (M;.ss Ethel Salmon) IS2Q Votes Business (Miss Edna Walker) 1315 Votes Total Votes Cast .. .. .. 5595 The queen-elect will be duly crowned at the Town Hall tonight. In connection with, this ceremony a fine pageantry will he presented and in con*, .■junction therewith; , a programme of vocal, instrumental, elocutionary and dancing numbers lias been. arranged, full .particulars of which appear in the. amusement columns.
The charges for admission have been kept down to a low figure and it is.earnestly hoped that theire will be a record' attendance in order that the existing debt of the band may be entirely wiped out.
