FOOLISH ACTION
BANKRUPT BURNS BOOKS. (Pur Press Association. —Copyright.) HAMILTON, This Day. Edward Petley, a bankrupt butcher, told the Official Assignee yesterday that ho had burned his books last September in disgust on discovering that he was losing money. The Assignee said the action was very foolish and a broach of the Bankruptcy Act. Bankrupt said his furniture was insured for £2OO in his name. Tin* fur niture had been sent to people in Wellington about a. fortnight ago as he had sold it to them a year ago. The Assignee doubted the story and decided to make inquiries. Bankrupt said he came from England about seven years ago with £I2OO and’ claimed to have £550 equity in the butchery. The house property was sufficient to pay all debts.
The Assignee doubted any equity and undertook to inquire regarding three houses bankrupt claimed to own in London.
