ASTOUNDING CRIME
HOUSEKEEPER’S CONFESSION PARAMOUR SHOT DOWN. SORDID COMPACT WITH SON. (Australian Press Association.) (Received 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. A startling development has occurred in the Wilson murder case at Walhalla. Deceased’s housekeeper, Annie Hillard, aged 38 years, has signed a confession declaring that she shot Wilson, whose son agreed to take the blame. She planned with the son to kill the father, with whom she had been living, i'll order that she might marry the, son. It was arranged to cause an argument with the father, but he declined to become argumentative. Hillard then called him tip a dark, passage and shot him , dead with, the son’s gun. Hillard is now charged ‘with murder.
The following account was cabled from Melbourne on Wednesday last; —David Wilson, aged 65, a pensioner who resided at Walhalla, 120 miles east of Melbourne, was shot dead today. George Wilson, aged 23, deceased’s son, has been charged with murdering hi's father. The police say the elder man was attacking his housekeeper when .the tragedy occurred.

(Received 8,10 a.m.) -SYDNEY, This Day, During what the. police describe os a domestic brawl in a -house in the suburb of Kensington, Edward Ellis, aged 18, a jockey, was stabbed in the neck with a sharp instrument and died before he reached the hospital. Deceased’s father, Alfred RMley Ellis, was arrested and charged with murder.

Mr Justice Burnside, at the trial, of Walter Jermyn on a charge of wilfully murdering William O’Brien, the lover of accused’s wife, said: “I don’t like to say what I would have done in similar circumstances. I hope this will be a lesson, to others to respect the sanctity of other men’s wives.” The jury returned a verdict of manslaughter under the geatest possible provocation, and recommended Jermyn as strongly as possible for mercy.
The Judge said ho thought three, months’ imprisonment with hard labour, fitted the case. .
