PERSISTENT THIEF
BETTER OFF IN GAOL.
(Per Press Association. —Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Described by the police as a man with a bad 'Criminal history; James Alexander Scorringe, aged 2.1, was today sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, to be followed by two years’ reformative detention, for theft at Stratford of a wallet and £3 in money. It was stated that he had converted to his own nse a motor cycle for a week, finally abandoning it at Ngnhauranga. The theft was committed from a room mate, at one place where he .stayed. For conversion of the cycle, ftcorringe was sentenced to three months’ gaol. It was stated he was sentenced to four years’ reformative in 1923 for breaking, entering and theft. When the Magistrate remarked: “It was useless having Seorringe out.’’ The Chief-Detective replied: “Yes sir, he is a persistent thief.”
