THE AGRICULTURAL SHOW
PLAYS IMPORTANT PART. MAINTAINS BREED STANDARD. Au agricultural show in a district is recognised to be one of tihe best assets of the dairy fanner, and is deserving of his unanimous support. It is an organisation which opens avenues to greater success and pros-j perity. It is the stockman’s em-j porium . for extensively advertising ■the merits of his stock. It is the means by which the standard of a breed is improved, competition in the} show ring playing an all importantj part. It creates the* spirit of emula-| tion to such an extent that the eham-j pion of this year may be deprived.of) that distinction the following year, a} proof of the value of a show in main-j taining the breed standard and at the same time fostering its interests. During show period the dairy farmer, especially the non exhibitor, finds : much to interest him in the registered pedigree stock section. He is presented with a favourable opportunity to view the best quality animals of the breed type with butter-fat backing, the essentials inseparable in the make-up of those animals look- . ed to with confidence to raise the standard of butterfat production. The exhibition is, to the farmer, both educational and interesting. To < view animals with all-the characteristics of the thoroughbreds and the many points indicative of the butterfat producing type, and in marked contrast to the scrub breed, acts as an incentive to many a dairyman to raise the standard of his herd by introducing animals of quality and type similar to those exhibited at the show. The competitive spirit is a feature which also makes its appeal
to the visitor. Every beast is carefully prepared, and the exhibitor’s efforts are rewarded to the extent of showing his stock to the best advantage. A new era in the dairying industry throughout New Zealand is opening. To make dairying remunerative, the progressive farmer endeavours to build his herd up to a high standard by judiciously selecting from registered stock with a butterfat backing. It is confidently expected that the j exhibition of stock at the forthcom- i ing show, to be held at Kensington i Park on Wednesday and Thursday, | November 20 and 24, will eclipse all! previous records. Entries have been j forwarded from several noted breeders in outside districts, and the show-! ing of quality stock should create j spirited competition. There is only ] a little over a week left in which to I forward entries, as the closing date! falls due on Saturday, November 12, j
