ESCAPE OF YON SANDER. ;; MISSED BY A FRACTION, CHAUFFEUR »S STORY. • - ■ (Received 11.32 a.m.) • LONDON, November 2. The one man mainly responsible for the escape of General Von Sander frohi the clutches of the Australian Light Horse, after the rout of the Turkish Army in Palestine* was his chauffeur, Tieeke, • • - This fact was disclosed in chance conversation at the Motor Cycle Show between the manager of an English firm, Mr C. Wilson and a German agent. Wilson remarked: “I was with the Air Force in Palestine during the war and once chased Von Sander’s car.” Tieeke laughed and said: “Yes we had to move fast. I was driving and kept to the narrow lanes. The Australians missed us by the merest fraction.” —A. and N.Z.
