Th benefit to farmers will, however, b greater than this figure Indicates, a butter and cheese are selling at mud higher prices on the overseas markets The present season opened phenom cnally and at the end of Septembe: the increase in output was 33 per cent It was hardly to be supposed that thii rate could be maintained in the heaviei producing months, and it is not sur prising that the advance should havi been reduced to 21 per cent, by Oc tober’s returns. These were aft’ectec by the drier weather experienced, anc the consequent check to the growth ol pastures. In Auckland the rainfal was only 2.66 inches against 7.5' inches in October last year. In tin Waikato the fall last month was ever less, amounting to 1.80 inches. Since the beginning of the currcnl season 485,525 boxes of butter have been received into the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company’s stores, compared with 392,830 boxes during the corresponding period of last year, an increase of 92,695 boxes, or nearly 24 per cent. Last mouth 239,159 boxes were received into the store, against 209,097 in October 1926, an increase of 30,062 boxes over and above the record for the month established last year. The amount of cheese received since July 1 totals 31,077 crates, compared with 30,003 in the first four months of last season, an increase of 34, per cent. Cheese received during October also shows a proportionate increase, the number of crates taken into store being 18,711 against 17,316 in the same month last year. Stated in terms of butter-fat, the 'total output of butter and cheese to date totals 24,689,790 lbs, compared with 20,263,1901bs in the corresponding four months of last year, an increase of over 21 per cent. Shipments of dairy produce to date total 501,392 boxes of butter and 28,649 crates of cheese, compared with 409,086 boxes and 25,420 crates, last year. ■ - The amounts shipped during October were 190,946 boxes of butter and 17,415 crates of cheese. The figures for October 1926 were 184,058 boxes and 10,741 crates.
