ABSCONDING HUSBANDS
PENSIONS FOR THE WIVES. MINISTER. NOT SYMPATHETIC. WELLINGTON, This Day. In response to a suggestion that pensions be granted to deserted wives, the Hon. G. J. Anderson expressed the fear that it: would only encourage desertion and make it too easy for absconding husbands. If wives were on the pensions scheme no one would interest himself in finding the husband. It was then urged that women ought not to have to pay to bring their husbands back, as they could not find the money. The Minister said he was not aware of this and would enquire into the matter.—Press Assn.
