THE ROMA OIL BORE

STRONG GAS PRESSURE

BRISBANE, September 22

The Minister for Mines has announced that the pressure of gas in the Roma oil bore had increased suddenly from 30 to 2111 b and was still increasing. Gas was now coming out of the top of the tubing of the drill, and the manager expected that the gas would blow the rest of the water out at any time.

The Minister added that the gas would then be harnessed down for further testing of the quality of the petrol which it contained. The Government analyst (Mr .T. B, Henderson) had previously proved the gas to lie petroliferous.

A later test proved that the pressure of the gas had increased to over 4001 b, Drillers succeeded in freeing the bore of liquid mud, and brought the gas to the top. The gas smells strongly of petrol, and tests are now being made.
