A. AND P. SOCIETY’S PROPERTY
REVALUATION OBTAINED. ( RATES HALVED. When in Auckland some time ago, Mr C. P. Butler, secretary of the Whangarei A. and P. Society, learned from the secretary of the Auckland Society that legislation had been passed making provision for a reduction of rates on properties owned by agricultural and pastoral societies. In consequence of this he had written to the Valuer-General asking that the values of the Society's properties in Whangarei by reduced, as the annual rates now paid by the Society, namely £sl, constituted a heavy burden. The outcome of the correspondence was that the Valuer-General had replied to the effect that the rateable value on both the Society’s properties had ben reduced by 50 per cent. When the secretary made the above report at this morning’s meeting of the executive, Mr Crawford moved that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the president secretary for their good services in this respect. The president, however, stated that ■the credit was entirely due to the secretary’s efforts. The motion was carried by acclamation and a further motion by Mr Crawford that if the Society had been paying more than it had been entitled to pay in rates since the Act was passed the Borough Council be asked to make the rebate retrospective.—This was also carried.
