THE PEOPLE’S COLUMN.

fOnr columns are quite open to the publ’c for the discussion of matters of public concern. We' invite correspondence, but do not identify ourselves with the views expressed by our correspondents.—Ed.]

: A DISCLAIMER. (To the Editor.) Sir, —Will you allow me’ space to correct a mistake in yesterday’s issue of the Northern Advocate”? In your report of the opening of an undenominational place of worship at Waikaraka you said that Mr J. ■Cochran “represented the Church of England.” I wish to make it clear that this is not so, since Mr Cochran is a private individual. The Church of England can only be officially represented in this parish by myself, the assistant priest, or with my permission by a lay reader licensed by the Bishop. Mr Cochran has no authority or permission to conduct any services as a representative of the Church in this parish.—Yours sincerely, H. T. STEELE, Vicar of Whangarci.
