KAWAKAWA SHOW

AUSPICIOUS OPENING. . SPLENDID EXHIBITS. Favoured with fine weather yesterday, the initial show of the Kawakawa Agricultural and Pastoral Association met with a ready response, both in the matter of attendance and exhibits. In tlie cattle section there .was keen competition among the Jersey and Friesian' classes, although it was a pity that Shorthorn breeders were not represented. In the fat sheep, too, no entries were forthcoming. This may be attributed to tiic fact that in the Kawakawa district there are not a great many sheepmen, the land being mostly devoted to dairying. The horse and ring events drew spirited competition and these were really first tgradc. The inside exhibits, while not strong numerically, were of a standard that-would do full justice to a bigge r organisation, some splendid work being exhibited in the needlework and schools’ sections. The exhibit of the Kawakawa school was a very fine one and the children deserve every credit. The association was very fortunate in the matter of trophies, no fewer than nine handsome silver cups, one gold and three silver medals being available for competition. 'V The following is the list of the donors of cups, etc; —Champion Hunter, T. Brown; champion 'Shorthorn cow, J. F. Wall; Jersey Heifer, 1 year,, E. Doel; champion Jersey bull, A,. H.
