TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The regular monthly meeting of the Hikurangi Town Board was held last Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs Cherrie (in the chair), R. Lomas, F. Mcßeth, and the town clerk, Mr A. M. Rust. Apologies were read from Messrs Dobson and Smith for absence. VIEW ROAD. The Minister of Mines wrote further re £4OO grant for View Road. The clerk explained that this letter was in sequence to the letter read in the outward correspondence. RATES. It was agreed that the clerk proceed after February 9 to surcharge all unpaid rates by 10 per cent, and that any rates unpaid by February 28 be placed in hands of a solicitor for summary collection. MOTOR VEHICLE FEES. The chairman explained that he and Mr Lomas had conferred with the County Council and had agreed to accept 3} per cent, of the license fees for motor vehicles as the board's quota, and that the clerk had been instructed to apply to the Borough Council for the money. WATER EXTENSION CONTRACT. Matters in connection with this contract were fully discussed and it was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Cherrie and Mcßeth, as follows: (1) That Wilsons’ Collieries Company be asked to pay over the amount of contract, £291. (2) That repayment, cheques equal to amount of water meter accounts bo drawn out and receipts forwarded to the Collieries Company forthwith. (3) That a cheque for £IOO be paid to the contractor, Mr J. Dinsdale, as a progress payment on the job. TOWN ELECTORAL ROLLS. The clerk submitted a list of those whom ho knew were entitled to vote at elections, and explained that notices had been posted in the windows calling on people to register, but that no further names had come forward for registration. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Mcßeth and Lomas, that the ■ clerk’s draft copy of electors bo hung up in the Farmers’ Union Trading Co. window until February 23, when the revised copy would be printed and so enable people to register prior to impending elections and polls. SANITATION. The clerk reported two eases of small-area properties having no sanitation service although the cases had been referred to the health inspector last September, It was agreed that the clerk and inspector confer with a view to prosecutions of owners if necessary. A resolution was adopted that the balance of the sanitation area money (£53) bo paid forthwith, and that the area be entered as an asset on the balance sheet next March. RECREATION RESERVE. Mr J. Quinn offered to take a lease on the recreation reserve for £2O a year as from February 1, 1926. It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Mcßeth and Lomas, that the offer be accepted. BOROUGH POLL. The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote enclosing a’ copy of the finding of the commission granting permission to have a poll, and asking for the name of a returning officer and a compiler of the roll. It was agreed, on the motion of Messrs Cherrie ’ and Lomas, that the clerk ho recommended to the Minister as returning officer and roll compiler. MISCELLANY. The following resolutions were also recorded. — That the Dairy Company be asked to pay the amount of £4 "janitation fee agreed on, by February 16 next. That the clerk negotiate with the Kamo Town Board re two street lamps. That 23 sanitation pans be ordered for the new service at Wilsonville, That iu future all Felton wheels must be paid for when due on March 1 in terms of contract.

Accounts amounting to £425 Is 6d were passed for payment. Building permits were granted to C. B. Gager, shop, King Street; H. Jackson, billiard saloon, King Street; Mr Leighton, motor garage in George Street. (No garage will bo allowed in future on the front line of dwell-ing-houses). The surfaceman's report was read and approved. The poundkeeper’s report, with fees of 6/, was handed in and his resignation was accepted, subject to the handing in of all books and moneys in connection with the pound.
