CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
GENERAL GATHERING. Tho regular monthly meeting of the Hikurangi Chamber of Commerce was held in the Town Board office last Wednesday night. Present:—Messrs, j C. B. Gager (chairman), A. M. G. Ward, | P. Shore, A. C. Beale, and the secretary, Mr. D. E. Young. A letter was received from the Whangarei Chamber’ of Commerce intimating that the president of the Hikurangi Chamber had been appointed an honorary member of the former institution for the year 1926. The Hikurangi Chamber, in appreciation of the honour conferred upon its president, reciprocated by unanimously appointing the Whangarei president an honorary member of the Hikurangi Chamber of Commerce for the ensuing year. The secretary was instructed to write to the stationmastcr at Hikurangi re questing him to endeavour to arrange that goods in trucks ex steamer arriving in Hikurangi daily by the 8 a.m. train bo unloaded on the morning of arrival, with the object of making it possible for businessmen to receive their goods on the day of arrival. The [difficulty now confronting them is that ; consignments on arrival are not dealt with promptly, thus causing much inconvenience, particularly in regard to week-end supplies. Discussion took place in reference to the establishment of a permanent bank at Hikurangi, and after lengthy deliberation it was decided to leave the matter in abeyance until next meeting.
