Brigadier-General Stewart, a Canadian engineering expert, was a passenger for Sydney by the Makura on Monday.

Miss M. Cresswell, organising inspectress of domestic science, Natal Education Department, is a visitor to New Zealand.

Captain Thomas Wilson, of New Plymouth, claims the longest service os a J.P. in New Zealand. Captain Wilson’s commission was issued in 1874.

Mr Henry Shaw, the well-known lover of books who has presented a valuable library to the people of Auckland, is at present a guest at the Commercial Hotel.

Mr Pemberton Billing, a one-time member of the House of Commons, is a through passenger to San Francisco by the Makura, which arrived at Wellington from Sydney on Monday. Colonel Hunter, Director of the Division of Dental Hygiene, left by the Makura on a twelve months’ visit to America and the Old Country.

Mr H. Roberts, president of the Bay of Islands sub-provincial executive of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, met with a painful accident to his leg a few days ago while he was dipping sheep. It necessitated medical attention, but Mr Roberts is now on the road, towards recovery.

A much respected resident of Nelson, Mr John Berkeley Harrison, has died. Deceased, who had lived in retirement for many years, was formerly engaged in the teaching profession, having been on the staff of the Christchurch High School, and headmaster of the' Akaroa Scffool. He was for some time a member of the City Council, and took a keen interest in civic affairs. Deceased, who was in his 79th year, was predeceased by his wife about nine months ago. There is no family.

The Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, Mr H. J. Lowe, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Mr O. N. Campbell, chief drainage engineer, Mr A. W. Milligan, the Minister’s secretary, and Messrs Reynolds anl Ross, of the Press, comprised the Ministerial party which arrived in Whangarei by the express yesterday afternoon. They stayed the night at the Commercial Hotel and proceeded this morning to the Bay of Islands electorate. Messrs W. Jones, M.P., and Allen Bell, M.P., left with the party today. To join Zane Grey’ party at Russell at the personal invitation of the author there arrived in Auckland by the Maunganui (says our special corre spondent), Colonel D. K. B. .Sellers, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Colonel Sellers, who is accompanied by Ms wife, will go first to Taupo to fish for trout, and will then proceed to Russell. “I’m not a deep-sea fisherman myself,” he explained, “but I want to see Zane Grey and his party at work.” Colonel Sellers said he had heard some glowing accounts about New Zealand's scenic and sporting attractions when he was in British Columbia last summer. Many tourists spoke of the Dombinion, and he decided to come over and see it for himself.

Mr Robert Stout, associate to Sir Robert Stout until the latter relinquished his position as Chief Justice, will enter the Public Trust Office shortly.
